Scat Cat Sessions Tour GIPS

And now, that's >1300 more kids who now know the name of Duke Ellington, and have experienced an introduction to the sounds and sign posts of jazz and improvisation!

Made possible with the support of Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) with the help of grants from the Nebraska Arts Council.

Introductory Session - One day only

This being the first time GIPS has collaborated directly with Keri on one of her programs — the choice was made to give multiple schools a one-day sample of what a typical week-long program can be like.

The French Connection

Each grade level at each K-5 school got a mini-concert as Keri Chryst performed songs from both U.S. and French jazz traditions. Listeners were also given inroads to making connections with their own music experience to further spark their interest in America's original art form.

Deeper Dive

Depending on time limits they also got an opportunity to interact with Keri in:

  • Learning more about jazz and the life of a professional musician

  • Answering burning questions about French life and culture

Improv awaits!

And for a few lucky kiddos, there was even time to explore some improvisation of their own!
