Civic Engagement

Songs of Social Significance

Music — an echo of the rhythm of life, and a powerful tool to harness social engagement through evocative lyrics, accessible melodies, and powerful refrains.

Jazz, Gospel, Funk, Folk, Rock, Rap, Punk... Whether Anti — war, violence, oppression — or Pro — equality, freedom, democracy — artists of all genres have rallied for social change in the interest of justice, liberty, and peace.

Our artists draw from classic examples from some of the 20th century's most emblematic and eduring messages from the likes of Oscar Brown Jr., Bob Dylan, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Joni Mitchell, James Brown, Nina Simone, Joan Baez, Wynton Marsalis, Marvin Gay...

Through the unifying force of popular song we encourage you to sing along as together we strive to bring about a better day for us all.
